What is product sustainability?

Product sustainability means that products are designed and produced ensuring society, the economy, and the environment are not negatively affected. Creating products which have a lower environmental impact compared to competitor products or systems. Ensuring they positively impact society. Guaranteeing sustainable businesses and the product is economically advantageous to all stakeholders.

Why is product sustainability important?

Product sustainability is important for us to achieve Net Zero.45% of global emissions are associated with making products. Product sustainability is therefore imperative in our fight to achieve Net Zero. Energy and transport contribute 55% of global emissions, this is being addressed, however products – the remaining 45% – that we use and consume daily have not really been addressed yet. Therefore, the fight to achieve Net Zero must combine energy, transportation, and product redesign and development to address our environmental issues. This is what we do.

How to measure product sustainability?

Measuring the impact of a product is carried out by doing a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). These are quite complicated and take time and resources. However, you can gain a lot of insights from the assessment. It is important to understand 2 different LCAs cannot be compared so comparing other products is not possible unless they are studied together in the same LCA.

What is product sustainability management?

Product sustainability management is when the process of taking a product from concept to market is managed, starting with sustainability and ensuring the parameters defined in the concept and design stage are carried throughout the development and production of these products, to market.

What is sustainable product design?

Sustainable product design the same as regular product design but ensuring the product is purposefully created to reduce the environmental impact compared to another on market product or group of products which perform the same need.

How to design sustainable products?
